TRADITIONAL DÉCOR STYLE

Traditional or rather time-honored style of décor aesthetics is something that has been long gone, and interior designers, like me, are not too pleased with this. Certain elements of this style are probably seen in one’s home, but as a whole, this style seems to have lost its importance in the design world. Traditional décor, not only provides a warm welcoming atmosphere, but also a calm, orderly and classic ambience to a room. Wood dominates this design technique, with crown moldings. If designing a dining room, the table is usually rectangular with matching chairs and a chair rail or wainscot, the cutlery is silver or gold and the table accessories are typically floral or lightly patterned. The furniture arrangement is typically formal, repetitive, and symmetrical, with everything in place. Furnishings on the other hand, are subtle, warm, and soft on the color palate, with simple patterns and utmost elegance. Embellishments like tassels, trims, skirted furnishings, decorative valences, ornamental cornices and luxurious traverse draperies are some of the elements of this style. Flooring is usually wooden, with simple low pile pastel shaded carpets or rugs, this plays an imperative role in keeping the area in clover or cozy. The light fixtures are kept simple and plain with table lamps in silk shades or traditional wall scones, recessed lights are usually avoided. No room is completely designed without accessories; therefore, the essential ones here are elements of “living” such as a collection of coins, paintings or portraits, family art etc, anything that expresses warmth.

Indian Traditional Style-

Decorating your home with the Indian traditional style requires you to keep in mind 2 aspects: Wood and Red. These two elements dominate the ethnic design. Hardwood floors, heavily upholstered sofa’s, carved chairs, beautifully designed carpets, brass and wooden statues or accessories, and not to forget the shades of red used in the upholstery. Hand embroidery and conventional patterns used for the cushions, throws, and bed sheets, are something that will surely catch your eye. Therefore, next time if you are looking to redecorate your home, do not waver to incorporate the Indian Traditional Style.
